The Vegas Diaries by Holly Madison

Image
Previous review on Holly Madison's first book:   Down the Rabbit Hole     "Girlfriend Number 1" "Playboy Bunny" "Spoiled Gold Digger" "Reality-show Bimbo" "Basic B*tch"   After two publicly failed relationships and leaving the Playboy mansion, Holly Madison picks herself up of the ground she was kicked to and moves onto a new life in Las Vegas. Single, jobless, and dealing with a tremendous amount of low self worth, Madison was determined to break the labels she felt followed her around.   The Vegas Diaries: Romance, Rolling the Dice, and the Road to Reinvention takes you on Holly's inspiring journey to starting over, achieving your dreams, and living the life you want to live, even when it seems all the odds are against you.   In Holly's first book, Down The Rabbit Hole, I loved the added touch of a quote from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland before starting each ...

Burning by Danielle Rollins

"Monsters are more interesting than heroes"   Just months before her release from Juvie, Angela is desperate to stay clear of trouble to get back to her brother and finally be free. But that might be easier said than done. As 10 year old Jessica is brought in under high security, things start to feel off. Angela grows suspicious of Jessica and begins to realize what makes her so dangerous. Sometimes people are the monsters of our story, and Brunsfield Correctional Facility just became unsafe.   Danielle Vega is known for her horror stories with beautiful covers. Now also under the name Rollins, she writes her first thriller book and it was no absolutely fantastic. The characters were really likable and amazing, Angela and Jessica were so interesting to read about. It has a really compelling sci fi element to it that I loved, and really was the plot line for the whole story. I did predict parts of what was going to happened but definitely not the end game for this n...

The Call by Peadar O'Guilin

I would describe The Call as The Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins) meets the Darkest Part of the Forest (Holly Black). * I  received an advanced reader copy of this book from Indigo Books & Music Inc. in exchange for an honest review. #indigoemployee *   Thousands of years ago, humans banished the Sidhe's from Ireland to the Grey Lands. As punishment, sometime during your humans teenage years, you will be called. In the Grey Lands you will awake, with 24 hours to keep yourself alive, or face the wrath of the Sidhe's. Nessa has always believed she would survive her call, training at a school for survival for most of her adolescent life. Everyone else knows she won't survive, but Nessa isn't going to let a minor setback like being crippled be her downfall. Who will survive the Call?     I read the goodreads description of this book so I started reading with a vague understand of what to expect. However, it starts a little confusing. I feel ...

The Girls by Emma Cline

Image
Reminiscing back to the summer of 1969, fourteen year old Evie Boyd is experiencing many thrilling things for the first time; sex, freedom, drugs, and relationships with what will soon be known as one of the most infamous cults.   The Girls is a highly addictive, beautifully written, fictional story based on Charles Manson, his girls, their lifestyle and one of the most talked about murders to date.   After two coworkers raved about this book only partway through it themselves, I dropped everything else to read it. Emma Cline's debut novel blew me away, it's definitely a perfect summer read. Everybody knows of Charles Manson, the girls who followed him, this loosely based work of fiction was a book I didn't even know I needed. There's not much else to say other than how much I loved this book and I highly recommend it! I cannot wait to see what Cline writes next.     My Rating: 4.5/5 Stars
