Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness by Susannah Cahalan

Image
"An award-winning memoir and instant New York Times bestseller that goes far beyond its riveting medical mystery, Brain on Fire is the powerful account of one woman’s struggle to recapture her identity. When twenty-four-year-old Susannah Cahalan woke up alone in a hospital room, strapped to her bed and unable to move or speak, she had no memory of how she’d gotten there. Days earlier, she had been on the threshold of a new, adult life: at the beginning of her first serious relationship and a promising career at a major New York newspaper. Now she was labeled violent, psychotic, a flight risk. What happened? In a swift and breathtaking narrative, Cahalan tells the astonishing true story of her descent into madness, her family’s inspiring faith in her, and the lifesaving diagnosis that nearly didn’t happen." ( goodreads )   This is an amazingly brave story about a girl who lost herself. Susannah's writing has a way at telling her nightmare of a story in a way that

Wonderland: The Queen of Hearts vs. Red Queen

One of my biggest pet peeves regarding Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is the common confusion with The Queen of Hearts and Red Queen. Between the 1951 Disney version as well as the Disney live action movies, they confuse many characteristics and as much as I love all the movies it is a little annoying.   Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is my favorite book and have read it several times over the years. However I've actually once read Through the Looking Glass twice, and my memory on it isn't as good as the first story. I may have to read up on them both again soon!   I decided to make a post and fully identify each character to clarify the confusion.     THE QUEEN OF HEARTS - Appears in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - Catchphrase "Off with her Head" - Enraged easily - Plays croquet - Has 10 children (a full suit) - Married to the King of Hearts - Hates white roses - She is a great baker     RED QUEEN - Appea

The Feeding by Amy Lukavis

"There’s something deadly creeping in the woods outside of the small, sleepy town of Willows. Something with eight legs, sharp fangs and a connection to a local man who died years ago. It needs to feed, and new-to-town Craig is about to find himself on the menu. From Amy Lukavics, author of DAUGHTERS UNTO DEVILS, comes a story that will tap into some of your most primal fears. Do you have what it takes to survive THE FEEDING?" ( goodreads )     I have recently been looking on goodreads hoping to find updates on a new Amy Lukavics book for 2018 (even though I do still have yet to read The Women in the Walls)  and I found The Feeding which apparently was released in 2017. Looking more into this amazingly titled story on Amy's website I found out  The Feeding is a short story, and it can be found online:     Read THE FEEDING by Amy Lukacivs This short story plays off of three common fears; carnivals (uh that creepy music gives me shivers!), clowns, and spid

December17 book for Poison Apple Book Club Instagram: @taleswithnicole #poisonapplebookclub     "When Jughead's beloved pet Hot Dog is killed in a hit and run, Jughead turns to the only person he knows who can help bring back his canine companion—Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Using dark, forbidden magic, Sabrina is successful and Hot Dog returns to the land of the living. But he's not the same... and soon, the darkness he brings back with him from beyond the grave begins to spread, forcing Archie and the gang to try to escape Riverdale!" ( goodreads )   Since the tv show CW's Riverdale has been streaming on Netflix I have been really invested in Archie and the gang. And while I am strong #Bughead and #Varchie shipper on the show, in this graphic novel I am full #Barchie .   I remember when the news was going around that Riverdale Season 2 was going to be a lot darker and even though the Black Hood storyline is interesting, it isn't what I wa
