Fairest by Marissa Meyer

Image
"Who's the fairest of them all."   Fairest is a prequel to The Lunar Chronicles Series, and this review may contain spoilers from the first book of the series, Cinder.   I was told by a few people its best to read Fairest after the third book, Cress, because it is suppose to be a very good build up for the fourth and final book in the series, Winter. This I have found from personal experience to be true, but I read Fairest after the first book, Cinder, and I'm very glad I did. Levana is a main character throughout the series; the evil villain as she is based on the Evil Queen from the fairytale Snow White. Since Cinder does not speak from Queen Levana's point of view, I found myself a few times questioning her motives, her reasoning for things, and wishing I could get inside her head. Fairest gives you all the answers you've ever had about Levana, including her hatred for mirrors. Starting from the death of her parents in her childhood, Levana...

Ouija by Katharine Turner

Image
"As friends we've gathered, Hearts are true, Spirits near, We call to you.."   As kids, Laine and Debbie loved playing the Ouija board game at sleepovers. As teenagers, Debbie finds an old Ouija board in the attic of her house and, against the rules, decides to play alone... Laine is devastated to hear of Debbie's suicide, and gathers her friends in Debbie's house for closure. She wants answers, and they try to contact Debbie with a Ouija board. But it isn't Debbie they are talking too, and Laine and her friends are now in a game of life and death. They have let the spirits escape and now they must end the game once and for all or be left with the horrible consequences.   Sometimes while watching a movie I enjoy it so much I wish it was also a book. This is exactly what happened. Ouija by Katharine Turner is based on the movie screenplay written by Stiles White and Juliet Snowden. A lot of the conversations are similar and their are very few c...

"Never trust a pretty girl with an ugly secret."   Alison DiLaurentis is the Queen Bee at Rosewood High. Ruling with her four wannabe best friends, every girl either wants to be Alison, or wants to see her gone.   Alison DiLaurentis was last seen three years ago at a sleepover with her best friends. The town still mourns her death, but not all is forgotten. Former friends Spencer Hastings, Hanna Marin, Aria Montgomery, and Emily Fields are brought together by a haunting memory of Alison. Somehow, someone knows all their secrets, and is blackmailing them with a signature A; secrets that only Alison knew. The girls suspect Alison may be still alive, playing one of her cruel games. But when her body is finally discovered, the girls wonder how much danger they are actually in.   I loved this series. It's so twisted and these girls cannot seem to get their lies straight. Even with Alison gone, she is still controlling their life. I started this series at a young a...

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige

"REMOVE The Tin Woodman's heart, STEAL The Scarecrow's Brain, TAKE The Lion's Courage, And Then- DOROTHY MUSTER DIE."   When Amy's trailer in Flat Hill, Kanas is swept up into a tornado and lands in the middle of Oz, she is amazed with how different Oz looks from the Dorothy version she remembers. Oz is crumbling to the hands of Princess Dorothy and all the characters she had grown to love are evil, and has no choice but to put her trust in the Wicked Witches. The Revolutionary Order of the Wicked have given Amy four simple little tasks.. To save Oz, and herself from Dorothy, it's not about who is good or bad, but who is less wicked.   When I first heard of this book I was so excited to get a new perspective of Oz, like I have been currently doing with Wonderland.   I was not a huge fan of the main character, Amy Gumm, I'm not really sure why, I just couldn't connect well with her. I also find the story moving really slowly, i...
