Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard

"Never trust a pretty girl with an ugly secret."

Alison DiLaurentis is the Queen Bee at Rosewood High. Ruling with her four wannabe best friends, every girl either wants to be Alison, or wants to see her gone.

Alison DiLaurentis was last seen three years ago at a sleepover with her best friends. The town still mourns her death, but not all is forgotten. Former friends Spencer Hastings, Hanna Marin, Aria Montgomery, and Emily Fields are brought together by a haunting memory of Alison. Somehow, someone knows all their secrets, and is blackmailing them with a signature A; secrets that only Alison knew. The girls suspect Alison may be still alive, playing one of her cruel games. But when her body is finally discovered, the girls wonder how much danger they are actually in.

I loved this series. It's so twisted and these girls cannot seem to get their lies straight. Even with Alison gone, she is still controlling their life. I started this series at a young age and grew with it until the end. I have watched it turn into a huge hit on TV, and have loved seeing the differences in A throughout the book and TV series. I love each character, and feel like I have been a part of this world. The series has made me explore Sara Shepard's other work which I also really love.

There are a lot of books in the series, but if you feel you cannot commit to it all, it can be broken down. Books 1-4 revolves around A #1, and if you wish to end there you can. Personally, I strong suggest going till at least book #8. Wanted was my favourite book of the series and I absolutely loved how everything unfolded and how dark it really got. Book 9-16 is a more evolved story, with new problems, and of course another A. The first 8 books the girls are tired together with "The Jenna Thing", similar to the show but still has some interesting and different details. Books 9-16 connect the girls in a horrible new secret and this time it's so much worse than blinding a poor, innocent, high school girl. Blood is definitely on their hands this time, and someone was there to witness it all.

I also would like to comment on my love for the covers of these books. On each cover is one of the 4 girls, which obviously look very different then their TV characters. The doll version on the front represents the fake, plastic version of each of them, with their real self on the back. The girl on the cover of the first book is beautiful, blonde, Spencer Hastings.

Rosewood is such a dark town with so many secrets. I wish it never had to end.
