TEN by Gretchen McNeil

"Ten teens. Three days. One killer."

"Shhhh! Don't spread the word! Three-day weekend. Party at White Rock House on Henry Island. You do not want to miss it.

It was supposed to be the weekend of their lives—an exclusive house party on Henry Island. Best friends Meg and Minnie each have their reasons for being there (which involve T.J., the school’s most eligible bachelor) and look forward to three glorious days of boys, booze and fun-filled luxury.

But what they expect is definitely not what they get, and what starts out as fun turns dark and twisted after the discovery of a DVD with a sinister message: Vengeance is mine.

Suddenly people are dying, and with a storm raging, the teens are cut off from the outside world. No electricity, no phones, no internet, and a ferry that isn’t scheduled to return for two days. As the deaths become more violent and the teens turn on each other, can Meg find the killer before more people die? Or is the killer closer to her than she could ever imagine?" (goodreads

I read TEN a few years ago before I had even started taleswithnicole (originally named wonderlanddmadness). In recently months I have read that it is being turned into a movie and even more recently heard that it will air on Lifetime September 16th, so I decided to write a review on the book as best as I could remember.

I knew a bit about this book, I was very excited and always love a good story about teenagers going away to an isolated place and becoming the victims of a mass murder. It really gives me a Friday the 13th vibe, which is one of my favorite horror methods. So when I heard of TEN I couldn't wait to start!

I love slasher books, movies, video games, and TEN is a book I can definitely add to the list. I loved the isolated cabin set up, the range of characters (especially Meg and Minnie) and the tension between them. As the book moved along and people started dying, I thought the story was going in a really fun direction and loved the suspense, waiting to find out who would live and die, and how they would die, and in what order. The DVD message was a pretty cool idea and it really set the mood and the doubt in their minds that they really weren't safe. The ending for me was a little weak, I felt it could have been done better but was indeed a surprise to readers.

With ten teens and one killer who will make it to the end!?

Overall I enjoyed this slasher read and I really cannot wait to see how it translates to the big screen this Fall!

My Rating: 4/5 Stars
