The Perfectionists & The Good Girls by Sara Shepard
"Who killed Nolan Hotchkiss?"
This review is on The Perfectionist Duology.
The Good Girls (The Perfectionist #2) may contain spoilers from the first book.
In Beacon Heights, Washington, five high school girls believe they have nothing in common. Caitlin is the star of her female soccer team and so close to getting the scholarship she's worked so hard for. Ava is beautiful and smart, but is she above using her looks to get the grades? Mackenzie is a cellist who is competing against her best friend for a spot at Juilliard.
Popular Girl Julie hides her deepest fears at home away from her social life. Julie's best friend, former It Girl Parker has become distant and has been living on the wild side ever since her tragic accident.
When the girls are paired together in a group project, they realize they all hate Nolan Hotchkiss for the horrible things he's done to each of them. Together, they plan the perfect hypothetical way to kill Nolan and make it look like an accident. They would never actually hurt him.. Until Nolan turns up dead at his own party, in the exact way they had planned. But these girls swear they didn't do it, and unless they find out who the real killer is, their perfect lives will come crashing down.
The Good Girls by Sara Shepard
Caitlin, Ava, Mackenzie, Julie, and Parker are running out of time. As the body count in Beacon Heights rises, these girls are looking more and more guilty. Their main suspect is dead. And they were spotted at the scene of the crime. What are these pretty, perfect girls to do now? How can they possibly figure out who the killer is with the police watching their every move? They have their secrets to hide, but is murder really one of them?
I'm a huge fan of Sara Shepard, and the Pretty Little Liars Series.
When I heard about this exciting new series I knew it wouldn't disappoint, and it didn't. The Perfectionists Duology is my favourite series from Sara Shepard by far. She has an amazing way of making every person look extremely guilty, right up until they are proven innocent. And even then you are never really sure.
I had my suspects throughout the first book and as expected I was totally wrong. The book ended on a huge cliffhanger and I couldn't stop trying to figure out who the murdered really was.
I did eventually figure it out, but it really wasn't easy. For me personally, there were two tiny clues in The Good Girls that if you missed or didn't question, you probably didn't figure it out. I read this series alongside my friend Jasmine and she totally missed it!
The ending was incredible, it was such a shocking twist which makes it perfect for any fans of the Pretty Little Liars series (books or tv show!) The ending, like all Sara Shepard books, make me question if a third book will ever be possible.
I enjoyed all the characters, they were all so different and well written. Going between Caitlin the athlete, Ava the brains, Mackenzie the band geek, Julie the popular girl, and Parker the former popular girl showed versions of many layers of the high school social circle. It kept the book really interesting switching from their point of views to get to know each of them in a more personal way.
I highly recommend this series, it is a personal favourite of mine even above Pretty Little Liars. Shepard will keep you guessing right up until the very end as you uncover what Nolan Hotchkiss did to each of them, who killed the schools bachelor, and why.
Common Marlene King, take this amazing book series under your wing and create another incredible, highly addicting tv series!
My Rating For Both Books: 5/5 Stars
