We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

Image
We Were Liars follows Cadence Sinclair and her beautiful, perfect extended family as they vacation on their private island in the summer months. After an accident one summer night leaves Cadence with a head injury and missing memories, she still struggles two years later to put the pieces of that summer back together, and what awful events left her family so on edge. With no help from her beloved cousins, all Cadence can do is hope her memories will come back on their own. The dangerous truths of that summer hangs over the island as Cadence realizes sometimes you are better off left in the dark.   This book is so beautifully devastating. This is the perfect novel to curl up on the couch and read in one sitting. With a shocking twisted ending that will instantly give you the feels. As E. Lockhart said, "and if anyone asks you how it ended, just LIE." My Rating: 4.5/5 Stars

The Merciless by Danielle Vega

Get ready for:  Mean Girls meets The Exorcist. For mature audiences only. I will warn that there is bad language and disturbing images in this book.  When new girl, Sofia, befriends the popular, religious girls, Riley, Alexis, and Grace, she finally feels like she fits in somewhere. When Riley suggests the girls try to save gothic styled girl, Brooklyn, Sofia doesn't really give it much thought. But Riley's version of "save" is more twisted then Sofia could have imagined. Kept against her will, the girls preform an exorcist on Brooklyn, which also includes gruesome torture. But who in this group of friends can you really trust? Secrets are revealed, friendships are betrayed, and there is no end to the blood being shed. The only question is, once these girls have crossed the line, who is going to save them?  Danielle Vega's debut novel is flawless. Do not judge this pink book by its beautiful cover, it's pure horror; full of suspense, suffering, and...

Down The Rabbit Hole by Holly Madison

To be honest, when I purchased this former Playboy Bunny's tell all novel, I expected it to be somewhat of a joke. Filled with bragging stories about meeting celebrities, endless parties, and the luxurious Hollywood lifestyle, my lack of judgement assumed Madison did not have much else to offer. Although, what I ended up getting hit closer to home than I ever could have imagined. Madison' s description of her years at the Playboy mansion were much more relatable and dark. She bravely tells her personal experiences with drugs, alcohol, sex, depression, mean girls, as well as years of verbal and emotional abuse from the one and only Hugh Hefner. She demonstrates the feeling of being trapped and how difficult it is to leave a toxic relationship when blinded by love. Several times while reading I thought to myself, "why does she stay! He's so horrible and she just takes it." And that's when it hit me, I was an outsider looking in, and this is what an abusive rela...
