Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

"Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: she must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful thirteen-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims—a bit too strongly. Dogged by her own demons, she must unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past if she wants to get the story—and survive this homecoming." (goodreads)

Usually when I don't like a main character, I don't like the book. But Camille was a complicated character, I didn't like her but I felt so bad for her. She made so many bad decisions and said things that made me so angry but I still pitied her too. The bad relationship with her mother had more of a negative impact on her than she let on, and many childhood memories still haunt her. As Camille digs deep to uncover the secrets behind two murder girls, being in her mother's house again stirs the past for Camille.

Wind Gap is such a hateful place and not much has changed. A reunion with Camille's high school friends prove that Wind Gap hasn't changed much through the generations.

I really didn't know where this story would go. There was the obvious suspect, which seemed too simple. The ending left with a twist that I only just saw coming before it was literally right in front of me. It was such an insane ending I look forward to seeing if they follow the all the same twists in the TV mini series. Everyone feeling the pressure to get the murderer before a third victim. And why did he remove the teeth of the victims?

The identity of the murderer was such a unexpected twist. It's one of those reveals that just everything clicks into place. It was painful obvious but in an insanely brilliant way. I was impressed with the reveal.

I have watched the first episode of Sharp Objects that aired Sunday. It was a fantastic representation of the novel and I hope to see the storyline that through me unfold in the 8 episode series.

Sharp Objects has been the only book by Gillian Flynn I've read.
However, I did see the movie for Gone Girl on Netflix and read her short story The Grown Up.
As a lover of psychological thrillers I feel that Gillian Flynn is an amazing writer to get into. I hope she writes something new soon!
