"Martin Reese has a hobby: he digs up murder victims. He buys stolen police files on serial killers, and uses them to find and dig up missing bodies. Calls in the results anonymously, taunting the police for their failure to do their job.Detective Sandra Whittal takes that a little personally. She’s suspicious of the mysterious caller, who she names the Finder. Maybe he’s the one leaving the bodies behind. If not, who’s to say he won’t start soon?

As Whittal begins to zero in on the Finder, Martin makes a shocking discovery. It seems someone—someone lethal—is very unhappy about the bodies he’s been digging up.
Hunted by a cop, hunted by a killer. To escape and keep his family safe, Martin may have to go deeper into the world of murder than he ever imagined." (goodreads)

This book sounded like a perfect mystery read and I couldn't wait to start. I even went on Book Depository and ordered the UK cover because I liked it more than the US cover (shown below).

I knew before I started this book I wasn't feeling it. Unfortunately it just wasn't what I wanted to read at the time. When I'm not enjoying a book I usually give it the 100 Page Challenge. After 100 pages the plot and characters should be developed enough in the story and if you aren't liking it by then chances are you won't end up liking the book. Some people have to finish books even if they aren't enjoying them but personally I have so many books on my TBR (to be read) shelf I just can't suffer through a book just to finish. I usually only read one book at a time so if I had stuck with this I would have kept pushing it aside, wanting to read other books and could have forced myself into a slump. So in the end, I probably would have abandoned the book anyways.

However, I didn't even make it 100 pages into Find You in the Dark. I really wanted to give this book a solid chance since I picked it for Poison Apple Book Club but I just couldn't, and realistically I'm not going to absolutely love every book picked. I only read approximately 30 pages of Find You in the Dark, which I had already planned out a plot theory. After a few days of feeling like picking the book up was a chore I decided to stop reading it and move on to something else. Since there would still be a book discussion for the book club I did manage to read the last two chapters so I could hold some ground in the discussion. My theories were right, which was kind of disappointing after being only 30 pages into the book. That doesn't make a good mystery book to me, I want to work and pick up clues and be excited and frustrated about solving the mystery before it is revealed to me.

No matter what my feelings for this book may be it definitely has a killer plot idea. Even though this wasn't a book I enjoyed I think it could still do well.  Maybe it was just my mood, even though I know the ending I think I would like to revisit Find You in the Dark sometime in the future. If this book was a TV crime show I would absolutely watch it. It has the right idea, I just couldn't get into it for some reason.

My Rating: DNF/5 Stars
