Eeny Meeny by M. J. Arlidge

"One lives and one dies. No choice."

"Two people are abducted, imprisoned, and left with a gun. As hunger and thirst set in, only one walks away alive.

It’s a game more twisted than any Detective Helen Grace has ever seen. If she hadn’t spoken with the shattered survivors herself, she almost wouldn’t believe them.

Helen is familiar with the dark sides of human nature, including her own, but this case—with its seemingly random victims—has her baffled. But as more people go missing, nothing will be more terrifying than when it all starts making sense..." (goodreads)

Helen Grace and her team take on the most brutal murder cases and this serial killer is playing the game of choice. Instead of outright murdering their victims, this killer makes the two victims choose, one lives and one dies. Helen Grace and her amazing team risk their lives and reputations to catch this person and end the terror that lives in the survivors.

Helen Grace is such a complex character, she is definitely someone you continue to learn about as the series goes on. Her A team Mark and Charlie are also amazing additions to the hunt and I loved getting into their lives. I also really enjoyed getting chapters from the killer, this gave us a glimpse into their personal life while still having no idea who is actually speaking. Loyalties are tested, reputations are on the line and lives are at stake as Helen and her team get close to identifying someone who is closer to them then they could ever imagine.

This book will end in a blood bath with the unmasking of an untouchable killer and twisted ending even Helen herself cannot escape from. This is a case that will haunt Helen and her team for years to come.

Eeny Meeny is a strong first book in an amazing murder mystery series. I highly recommend the Helen Grace series for fans of the SAW movies and Criminal Minds. I currently have only read the first two books of the series, but I look forward to reading more.
