The Merciless II is the sequel to The Merciless. Reading this review will contain spoilers from the first book. Below is a link to my review of the first book, The Merciless.

Sofia Flores might have survived the wrath of Brooklyn Stevens, but even months later that disturbing night still haunts her. Sofia wishes more than anything for a fresh start, where nobody knows about the horrible things that happened to her when her prayer is answered. Upon the request of her grandmother, Sofia is sent to a Catholic Boarding School. It isn't her first choice for a new start, but Sofia is grateful for this chance and is determined to make a new relationship with God. But Sofia gets distracted by Jude, an alter boy who seems to keep a dark past of his own. As Sofia and Jude confide in each other, Jude turns on Sofia and is more than determine to save her. Because everybody knows the only way to get rid of the devil, is to preform an exorcist.

Sofia is still haunted by what happened to her and her friends the night they tried to help Brooklyn. Since that night, her life hasn't gotten any easier. The way the Merciless ended, I really hoped and expected a sequel. I needed to know how Sofia's life went on after witnessing the gruesome murders of her friends and Brooklyn confiding in her that she is also evil. This sequel could not have been more perfect. Sending a possessed girl to a Catholic Boarding school is the perfect recipe for disaster. Then mix in a heart throbbing alter boy, a questionable Father, and quirky roommates.

As Sofia adjusts to life at her boarding school, circumstances cause her to worry more and more that she really is evil. The story is really interesting and moves at a really good pace. The last 100 pages are where it really hits the fan. Danielle Vega brings her terrifying all in this book and it's nothing but excitement, full of twists and turns right up until the jaw dropping ending.
Compared to The Merciless, I felt this book did move slower, but it wasn't a bad thing. Sofia is dealing with a lot of personal guilt and grief, and I think it was important for her to go through the story the way she did. She refuses to believe what Brooklyn has told her and it wasn't until a few unfortunate situations happened for Sofia to believe it herself.

The book ended with Sofia being exactly where I wanted her to be. It was a perfect ending and I really cannot wait for the next book to pick up where it was left off. Sofia's story still has not finished being told.

Overall, I absolutely loved this sequel. Danielle Vega has already admitted to there being more Merciless books to follow, and I cannot wait to continuing this horrific storyline with the beautiful covers.
