The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins

*This review will have spoilers involving all three books/ four movies*
As The Hungers Games Films come to an end with Mockingjay Part 2 officially hitting theatres tonight, I thought I would use this opportunity to give one mass review on all three books.

May the odds be ever in your favor.

The Hunger Games:
In the country on Panem, there are 12 Districts surrounding the Capitol. In memory of the uproar that caused the loss of many lives and District 13, the districts offer one male and female between the ages of 12-18 every year in a fight to the death. 24 children will enter the games, but only one victor will be crowned. This annual event is what they call The Hunger Games. When 16 year old Katniss Everdeen finds herself in the centre of the 74th annual Hunger Games, she doubts her hunting skills are enough to keep her alive. In order to survive the games and where winning means being the last one alive, Katniss must put her trust in the unknown allies of a Capitol member, a past victor of the games, and even her district male competitor.

Catching Fire:
Katniss Everdeen, the Girl on Fire!
Katniss and Peeta from District 12 are still alive, and the winners of the 74th annual Hunger Games. Many are delighted that these two love bird have been victorious, expect President Snow who puts pressure on their little act. As the Victory Tour comes and goes it is up to Katniss to kill the flames of the start of a revolution. This year is also the annual 75th Hunger Games, and the third Quarter Quell. Every 25 years the games provide new challenges, and this year will shock everyone. The stakes are higher than ever, will Katniss be able to fight her way out of death a second time?

Mockingjay:
District 12 has been bombed.
District 13 is alive and well.
Peeta is a prisoner in the Captiol.
Katniss Everdeen wakes to find the consequences of breaking out of the arena and her friends are paying the price. While Katniss is safe in District 13 with her family and friends, Peeta and Johanna are in the Capitol being tortured and kept as criminals. Katniss is determined to save them, while President Coin's plan is to use Katniss as a symbol for the revolution. The Mockingjay. Katniss volunteers herself to be a solider as they fight their way into the Capitol to overthrow President Snow.
The end is near, no one is safe and not everyone will survive.

I truly love this series. I have read, and reread them and still find they pull at my heartstrings. All the characters are simply amazing. Katniss is such an incredibly brave and selfless person, even when she does see it, which is what I think makes her character so beautiful. Peeta is so loyal and devoted to Katniss, it's impossible not to adore him. Gail is stubborn, like Katniss, and I really loved the relationship they had together. Primrose's growth in the series is so graceful, she really surprised me with how quickly she matured. Effie is so colourful and fun, she really glams up the story. And Haymitch is ignorant and brutally honest, it's hard not to love his sense of character. I do have to admit, I felt the ending was a little out of character for Katniss it made me question it a little bit. But overall, this series is one of the best.

The films were so good and I felt really stuck to the story, which is a true blessing. It made for no surprises for the book lovers but we love the series for a reason, we want to see it how we read it. All the actors in the movie fit their characters perfectly. Jennifer Lawrence was the perfect Katniss. I am truly sad this is coming to an end, but will forever relive it every time I reread this series or rewatch the films.

My Rating: 4.5/5
